Who's That Knocking at My Door? (1967)
RANKED:
1. Who's That Knocking at My Door? (1967)
Martin Scorsese's debut film, 1967's "Who's That Knocking at My Door?" is by no means a work that will exemplify the career of the great American filmmaker. However, all of the 'Scorsese' elements are there: New York City, violent men, jealousy, Catholicism, etc. Even if the ingredients don't quite make the perfect stew that Scorsese has come to be known for, the film is a great observation into an artist as an amateur. The film is clearly an artist trying to find his voice and experimenting with what his visual style could be. Whether or not it quite sticks the landing does not erase the fascination of watching a master find his footing. If anything, it's a promise of more to come.
